Patient workflow in a clinic: the need for a network

The need for a network within a clinic is demonstrated by the folllowing quote from Dr. Perry Killam, who is managing the ZEPRS deployment in Lusaka:

"Typically a patient might have her record documented on by several computers within the clinic. The clerk might use a different computer than the midwife. The computer that prints the antenatal card may be different from the one used to fill in her labs. So, I think that the computers within the MCH clinic need to have real time updating."

Patients generally do not go from MCH to LW; however, "if the MCH printer isn't working, they might go to Labor Ward to print the antenatal card and vice versa for the LW."
